The day is finally here, and we couldn’t be more excited! Not only is today Judd & I’s 1 year wedding anniversary, it’s also the reveal of our Indiana Master Bedroom project- #IndyDesignDuo. Over the course of the last year, we’ve been working behind-the-scenes with a handful of our favorite brands to create a master bedroom fit for two designers. I wanted to take this space from bachelor pad bland to chic & styled. (Want more of the before & backstory? Check out our Bedroom Update blog here).
For those of you who don’t already know, Judd is an Industrial Designer at Brizo/Delta faucet in Indiana. Funnily enough, Judd & I actually met a few years back at a brand partnership meeting in New York City…and the rest is history! When we got married last spring in our small COVID-friendly ceremony, I decided that we should redesign the master bedroom in Judd’s Indiana home intime for our 1 year wedding anniversary. Though we split our time between Indiana and DC, I wanted this new space to be a marriage of our two styles and to represent us both.
I immediately got together with a few of my favorite brands to get to work on this project. A few of the brands we partnered with to make this dream into a reality include, Universal Furniture, Hudson Valley Lighting, Fabricut and Sherwin Williams. Now that the space is finally finished and photographed, we’re ready to take you on a photo tour & reveal our new #IndyDesignDuo Master Bedroom.
When it came time to actually design our bedroom, I knew right away that there were a few foundational pieces I just HAD to include in the space. I wanted the larger furnishings and fixtures to really appeal to Judd’s minimalist style, so I looked for pieces with clean modern lines. One of the pieces I was immediately drawn to was the Nina Magon collection Magon King Wall Bed from Universal Furniture. It was a must-have for me! With its oversized low-profile shape and luxe padded upholstery, it was the perfect piece to marry my love of dramatic design with Judd’s simplistic style. With the headboard as the foundation for the whole room, I knew I’d also need to get a large rug to ground the space and a great light fixture to draw the eye up to the vaulted ceilings.
The Corbett Lighting Nexus Chandelier was the perfect light fixture for this space. It comes in a great Satin Silver Leaf finish that casts as a muted gold in certain lights, making it a great fit for the design. With the high vaulted ceilings in the bedroom I knew that we’d need something amazing & architectural to draw the eye up, and this chandelier did just that. Not to mention, it was Judd approved (which rarely happens with anything that can be classified as a “chandelier”).
For the floors, I was immediately drawn to the Jaipur Living Satellite SAT02 rug, to go under our bed. Anyone in the Midwest can attest to the fact that the mornings can be quite chilly, so a warm rug is a must for any bedroom with hardwood floors. I went with the 8x10 size in the black and white colorway, so that it would sit perfectly under the bed without overwhelming the space. The rug also brought in a great large-scale geometric pattern to the space, to play off of the smaller prints and patterns of the bedding.
Once our foundational pieces were picked, it was time for the fun part: accessorizing! Since I had selected minimal and modern furnishings to appeal to Judd’s style, I wanted to warm the space up & bring in more of my feminine style with the décor. From fun & funky wall art, to plush pillows & fabrics, I had a great time incorporating more of my style through the accessories! I began by selecting some great abstract art pieces from Uttermost and Leftbank Art to bring in movement and organic lines into the space.
Once the art was nailed down, it was time for fabrics & bedding. I immediately found this stunning Rula Fabric from Stroheim in the color Pitch, and decided to have it made into a bed runner. This fabric has a more whimsical and feminine print, and brings the perfect amount of contrast to the bedding. I also had pillows made out of the Blush Ritzy Geometric fabric from Fabricut. These luxe velvet pillows help to make the bed feel like a plush dream! I finished the bed off with a few ready-made Maddox Abstract Border pillows from Eastern Accents to complete the overall look.
Judd and I are so happy with how the space turned out, and we can’t wait to spend lots of time at the lake this summer. I think any married couple can tell you that combining your styles and furniture can be a real, well…challenge. Add in the fact that we’re both head-strong designers and it can make things a tad more complicated, but I loved the challenge! By combining our styles and tastes we ended up with a space that is 100% us, and brings our personalities together nicely. That’s the beauty of good design, it should reflect the people and personalities that live in the home. What do you think of our #IndyDesignDuo bedroom makeover?
