High Point Market Fall 2024

Last month, our design cup overflowed at this year's High Point Furniture Market (HPMKT)! As the most anticipated event in the design world yearly, HPMKT brings the design industry together for a week-long showcase of innovation, trends and connection. For our team, it's an opportunity to discover the latest and greatest for our clients, test the products in person and connect with our favorite vendors. It's also an incredible opportunity to interact with the broader design community at dinners, parties, showrooms and panels.

This year, our founder, Sallie Lord, had the honor of speaking on two panels:

  1. Classic Home's "From Passion to Profit" – moderated by the brilliant LuAnn Nigara.
  2. Antique & Design Center's panel on retail spaces – a discussion on the highs, lows and financial intricacies of running a retail business.

Both panels sparked thought-provoking conversations, leaving a lasting impact on attendees and designers who also spoke on the panel.

Highlights from HPMKT Fall 2024

Classic Home
On our first full day at HPMKT, Sallie participated in Classic Home's "From Passion to Profit" panel alongside industry pros Duval Reynolds and Karen Wolf - moderated by the great Luann Niagara. Together, they delved into actionable strategies for thriving in the design business, sharing lessons and insights from their journeys and business practices.

Antique & Design Center
Later, Sallie took the stage... or couch at the Antique & Design Center to explore retail spaces, speaking on a panel of retail professionals. Fun fact - Sallie's design journey started in retail; it's a space she holds near and dear to her heart and is excited to explore with her collection at Fineza.

Top Trends We're Loving For 2025
After two decades of attending HPMKT, Sallie knows how to spot trends that will not only work for our clients but shape the design landscape. This year, we also asked our designers who attended market to share their top trends. Here are the top takeaways:

Sallie's Observations:
• Trim & Fringe Details: We're seeing loads of POOF! Think bullion fringe, contrast cording, and bold welting – maximalism is in, and frankly, we're here for the elevated details... there's certainly much to play with!

• Mixed Materials: Furniture with juxtaposed textures like wood, metal and fabric is making a statement. Box pleat sofa skirts and ruffled accents are also back!

• Warm Tones & Patterns: Cozy up with florals, checks, stripes and all the Laura Ashley vibes. A totally nostalgic moment with a lot of modern influence!

• Not Loving:
The '80s are back, but this revival has its limits – we will firmly be saying "NO" to waterbed-inspired frames with pleated corners. Some things are better left in 1989! Obviously, not Taylor Swift, of course!

Kara's Observations:
• Geometric Designs: One trend I am seeing repeatedly looking back is more and more geometric & architectural elements being incorporated into furniture pieces. We have witnessed the repetitive use of the arch for a while now, but now more geometric elements are manifesting in our furniture through fluting, box molding, trapezoidal chair backs, etc. I think GHI will incorporate strong framed furniture like this into our more modern projects since they serve as clean-lined solid statement pieces for each room.

• Maximalist Prints: Another trend I spotted is prints upon prints upon prints! So many showrooms, from CR Laine, to Worlds Away, to Fabricut, showcased bold wallpapers against floral chairs and patterned drapery. The key to making this maximalist statement work is to focus on scale and where to implement repeating patterns. For example, many showrooms had drapes that matched the wallpaper. I think GHI will get a chance to utilize this trend with clients looking to make a strong statement in their homes.

Justine's Observations:
• Purple Reigns: I noticed and love the use of purple coming into play! The color showed versatility, from total upholstery pieces to case goods to adorable pattern pillows. I was delighted by the way it can read both feminine and masculine in different use cases. It's my new color crush!

• Playful Details: I noticed the maximalist details. Seeing scallop edges on chairs, fringe on sofa skirts, trims and tassels on pillows and drapery, patterns in lamp shades. It felt like showrooms were saying, "Go for it" and have some fun.

Looking Ahead To The New Year
Now that market is behind us, the excitement lives on as the pieces, textiles, accessories, accents and art we scouted are beginning to appear in our design. Stay tuned to see how these trends inspire our upcoming projects – from bold statements to subtle, transformative details. We're already counting down to the next HPMKT!
