As designers, we all have those dream opportunities and pitch-me moments that we aspire to. This past December, we were incredibly honored when the lovely ladies of the St. Margaret's Guild invited us to design a room in the 2024 Indianapolis Decorators' Show House. Being the oldest show house in the country, participating in this event to support Eskenazi Health was truly a privilege.
In true celebration fashion, we designed a sophisticated and glamorous cocktail room – a retreat perfect for relaxation, connection, sipping cocktails, and even playing a game of chess. The stunning jewelry lights from Hudson Valley Lighting, custom Eastern Accent drapes made by Drapery Street, and pillows from Indiana textile designer Kristy Stafford all contribute to the room's natural decadence. With layers of pattern, texture, and fun, this space is truly designed for lounging and keeping the conversation flowing.
We loved how the beautiful Ashley Stark rug served as the foundation, drawing the eye to the custom art piece created for our room by Anna Afsar. Every nook and cranny holds treasures and stories, but my personal favorite is the photo in the closet of my Nan living in England, attending a hospital party for her husband. She looked absolutely fabulous in her cheetah fur coat, holding a white teacup filled with brandy.
Seeing visitors walk through the space and leave inspired to create their own cocktail lounge or coffee bar was a wonderful experience. Inspiring people and getting them excited about design is what truly motivates us. The cherry on top was making new designer friends and guild ladies, and winning "Rookie of the Year" for the Show House, considering it was our first time participating. Despite our 25 years of design experience, we're still Rookies to Indy, and it was quite an honor to be voted for by our designer peers. Cheers to this design pinch-me moment!
