Hello, 2023! I have longed for you since the start of 2022. Last year was a YEAR and I am ready to jump in and make this year the very best! As you may have noticed we are starting this year with a new look ourselves. A GHI designer refresh is underway as we launch our new logo and work towards expanding our business all while bringing our clients the best of our talents! We are ready to share what we are seeing and loving for trends of 2023!
Well, hello you sassy year of 2023! Viva Magenta, which I love the name, was just named Pantone's color of the year and we couldn’t agree more! In fact, we are working on an amazing house that is well…gonna knock your “Viva la Socks” off!
Let’s kick it off!
1. Pantone’s color of the year is Viva Magenta- We love playing with pops of color and whether you want to make it light, bright and happy or moody, Magenta is always a sassy power color!
2. Larger scale centerpieces and accessories. We are heading into a time of minimal décor but statement larger scale pieces. The “Go big or go home” mentality is being embraced, and people are “Going big at home!.” Large branches bring life and texture in, as do bunches of flowers as well. For your maximalist, don’t worry, that large scale helps add balance and variety to your tabletop collections.
3. What is old is new again, we will talk about that more in a minute, but rich woods are coming back to the forefront of the design world. The richer the woods, burls, and tiger maples are being showcased as the staple pieces they were always meant to be. It is also a great choice for the environment when possible to reuse items you have provided. It isn’t compromising the design.
4. Softer earth tones, we are seeing earth tones and softer palettes becoming a leading trend that isn’t going away like sage greens, clays, and golden tones.
5. Consciously Repurpose. Everyone deserves a second chance and we feel that way about many of our clients' pieces. We always look to see if we have pieces that need a refresh or envision them in the space. So thrilled that this trend we have always done is coming in hot! Take a look at these before and afters.
6. Moody Rooms are for everyday and not just Mondays. Feeling embraced by a room can give you all the feels, so don’t forget that 5th wall!
7. Maximizing small spaces. This trend is here to stay. Take advantage of every corner and every closet you can. Whether its for a game cabinet, or wine room/closet, it was whatever serves you best. Just have fun with this jewel box space!
8. Light & Bright- Light and bright still and always feels good too so many. We are still seeing this as not just a trend but a staple and new way to approach light-neutral walls by giving contrast to make it pop and be special. Could be trim work or wallpaper, do something that makes it different and customized to you!
9. Tone on Tone and Texture- This will never go out of style. Playing with texture and tone is elegant and welcoming for all.
10. Functional Spaces- One of the best overflows from COVID has taught us to make our spaces count! They need to be beautiful but functional is the key! Here are some great examples of getting a closet organized (more on that to come). To the laundry room,
bathrooms and kitchens. These spaces really matter. It’s time to invest in them but in your day-to-day living experience.
11. Wallpaper & Pattern Play - Gotta love some fun pattern play. I feel like I am going back to my roots. When I started designing 23 years ago, mixing patterns was “THE” thing to do! I am happy to welcome it back into the full swing of the design world.
There are many other “Trends” and lists of what’s “IN & OUT,” but at the end of the day, do what works best for you. Make your space functional and beautiful and for each person, that is a different look, just like you are.
As I always say, “There are NO rules. Just do it in good taste!” Make this year count, and remember your surroundings are an expression of you. Make sure they align and it’s the right energy.
