The excitement of watching the contractors show up to start tearing down your kitchen is a thrilling experience! It might not compare to the joy of having that first meal in your new kitchen, but trust the team at GreyHunt Interiors when they say: the in-between time is full of things to see, experience, learn, and think about. Before the first hammer swings, let’s break down what comes before – and get ready, because there’s a lot!
When you decide to remodel your home, kitchen, or bathroom, that’s the start of turning your dream into a plan. Taking this investment seriously and making smart choices from the beginning is crucial. Having the right interior design and contracting team on board from the start is essential in reshaping your home and the way you live within its spaces.
For a kitchen remodel, the first step is discussing the changes you want with your partner. Figure out what's not working and what you absolutely need. Write down those ideas. Whether it's lots of storage, a hidden kitchen, double faucets, two dishwashers, or more dining space, the options are endless! (Below, you can check out some behind-the-scenes photos of before the build on our Island Inspired in Chantilly project!)
Once you have your dream list, it's time to meet with your designer. It's important to work with both an interior designer and a kitchen designer. Just as you wouldn't ask a general practitioner to do open-heart surgery, each professional has their specialties. An interior designer looks at your house as a whole, not just a room, aiming to understand your needs and desires beyond the kitchen. Meanwhile, the kitchen designer works on turning concepts into a reality within your space. While the kitchen designer finalizes the drawings, the interior designer focuses on selecting cabinet styles, colors, hardware, lighting, backsplash, countertops, hood designs, flooring, counter stools, kitchen table, chairs, and all other finishing touches to transform your kitchen into a showstopper and enhance your home life.
Once the design is complete, it's time to bring in the contractor to finalize the pricing based on the design. After agreeing on everything and signing contracts, it's time to order your appliances. The contractor will schedule the project, the cabinet order is placed, and your items are on their way. What happens next? Stay tuned for what's to come!
