The "Outs":

While I know we all have different styles and different designer touches, there are just some things that must stay in 2021.

This rule is always in! Everything in good taste makes great design, and being brave is very important. Ditch those design rules, take chances, run away from the status quo, and go wild!
We are really seeing the return of warmth  and way less gray. White, taupes and sand tones are taking over so that color can be applied.
There is nothing wrong with a floating shelf and we are still loving them BUT not everywhere and not taking over the entire kitchen.  We want to make sure shelves are functional and don’t become junk collectors.
This trend has come and gone. Wooden beads, eucalyptus everywhere with oatmeal linen? Let’s try something new. We said this last year and we’ll say it again: From shiplap walls to vintage shabby chic dressers, this design trend became too literal for comfort. Though this style can be a great place to start your design journey, think about layering in other looks and aesthetics to get a higher-end look. Think: Joanna Gaines’ cooler, older design sister if you want to reinterpret this trend.
Ditch the plans to just paint four walls and be done with it! Try out bold ceilings, accent walls, wallpapers, patterns, textures and more! And don’t forget the fifth wall – the ceiling! Adorn her with spectacular lighting and patterns to really show off the room.
Time to replace those faucets, towel holders, door knobs, and for sure the lighting! Don’t accept someone's random vision in your home. Customize and make it yours!

The "Ins":

Here is what to get excited for this year! Might we add that color is here to stay! Green is the ultimate choice mixed with blacks, whites, blushes, and beiges.

Recycle, Refresh, Refine! Shopping vintage and seeing the beauty in what is old and making it new again- this is what we like to see. With all the shortages, people are being creative and resourceful with items of the past and not just theirs, antique shopping is on the rise! Interested in learning more about vintage design? Check out this blog post on how to do it right.
TIED WITH #1: We are thinking outside of the box, aka “the shipping box” to see what we can recycle and reuse. How can we make less of a footprint? Can we recover our current pieces or restore them? The answer is, of course!
Don’t be afraid to color pop and color block. Bold colors, deep walls & golden tones for the win!
Warm color palettes are heating up as the month moves along. We are leaning back into tradition, but with a modernized and fresh perspective.
Texture is key to design success in this tactile environment. Things are always changing, so never be afraid to mix it up with flamboyant textures!
Yes, that is right, I said it. You all know I have an addiction to animal print... but I feel like the colors and patterns are perfect to apply as a neutral into a room! How could you go wrong?

Out with the old, in with the new! Are you excited for 2022? So are we! I think it is going to be quite a year for design. I can’t wait to see how you flash those skills and use these tips in your next project.
